“CAN THESE BONES LIVE?” “O SOVEREIGN LORD, YOU ALONE KNOW”

“CAN THESE BONES LIVE?” “O SOVEREIGN LORD, YOU ALONE KNOW”

Easter Sunday was passed; it has been celebrated all over the world well without any scarcity. As usual, face book too, filled with colored pictures in order to felicitate the occasion. People have ended their self denial/observances and celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ with different manner. What a joyous occasion was it!!!

The title question and answer are taken from the book of Ezekiel 37:3.The portion is usually taken as scripture lessons on Easter Sundays. When we meditate the portion particularly from 1-14, it helps us to look into our lives.

A vision of the’ Valley Of Dry Bones’.

The prophet Ezekiel was shown a valley full of dry bones and he was asked whether the bones could come back to normal life. God wanted to know whether the prophet was optimistic. The prophet left the possibility to the sovereignty of God. “O Sovereign Lord you alone know.”

He was asked to prophesy-

Dry bones; hear the word of the lord!

This is what the sovereign lord says to these bones: “I will make breath enter you and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord”

As the prophet was prophesying, with a rattling sound the bones came together, bone to bone, tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them.
As per the command of God the prophet prophesied, the breath entered them, they came to life and stood up on their feet.
37:11 Then he said to me, son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel, they say, Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone, we are cut off.

Israel recognizes their condition

• Their bones are dried up.
• Their hope is gone.
• They are cut off.

What a grave situation! This is the exact situation of many Christians .Dryness everywhere; relationship broken, no spirit of God working in them, Satan controls all the areas of life, life just for bread and butter alone, no contentment in life, no spiritual identity, place ‘among the dead’, no joy, no peace, fighting between husband wife, fighting in the church, and the frustrations can be seen everywhere.

As dryness affected the life, hopelessness could be seen all walks of life. Suicidal rate is increasing like anything. Divorce is happening without any conscience prick. People are not hesitant to kill anyone for the lust and pleasure. The driving force of one’s life to go ahead with a vision is hope. Our Christian identity gives us hope.

Hopelessness leads to the feeling of cut off or ruined. People of God were under captivity. They had no freedom or identity. They felt destroyed. When they came to such a reality God gave them a promise (Ez37:12-14).

• I will open your grave and bring you up from them.
• I will put my spirit in you.
• You will live.
• I will settle you in your own land.

What a beautiful promise! This is the way we experience the power of resurrection in our life.

We need a resurrection that is possible when we recognize our spiritual condition and ask God to revive. He will open our grave and bring you up from them. He will put the spirit in us to live. No doubt there will be a settlement here on earth and in eternity.

Admit that we are nothing; have a sincere search to find out our shortfall and pray to God that the power of resurrection may come upon us so that we may come out from our graves.

Submit to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Make use of available spiritual resources such as Bible studies, fasting prayer, Sevini samajam, youth meeting, night prayer, Tuesday worship and Friday meetings in order to be spiritually strengthened to LIVE and to be SETTLED.
